Making A Fast Mold Of The Hand Using
Alja-Safe
Alginate

1. Alja-Safe™ is a blend of fine powders and is shipped in a “bag-in-a-box” configuration. 2. Water temperature of 80°F / 27°C gives you
a working time of 7 min. and a demold time of
10 minutes.

3. Mix ratio is one part water to one
part Alja-Safe™ powder.
4. For Best Mixing Results - Sift powder into water and use a mechanical mixer such as a Jiffy Mixer or a Squirrel Mixer. 5. Common Mold-Making Principles Apply - be careful not to position your model so that the model becomes mechanically locked in the mold. Also, be conscious of angles that may entrap air.

6. Demold -
Carefully “wiggle”
the model out of
the mold.
7. Unlike Body Double™, you are limited by
what you can cast into the mold. You can cast
plaster, wax or a fast urethane resin (like Smooth-Cast™ 300Q). To make this
reproduction, we used Matrix™ NEO™ polymer
modified gypsum.

8. NEO™ is mixed 2 parts powder to one part liquid by volume.

9. NEO is poured into the mold cavity at the
lowest point.
10. The Problem With Alginate -
To extract a complicated casting from an alginate mold, you need to destroy the mold.
11. Want Another Casting Of This Model? You need to make a mold of this casting using a more permanent mold material such as silicone or urethane rubber.
