Beeskep II Candle Operation Running with Smooth‑On Rubber

Overview

Beeskep II began as a kitchen operation in 1993. The unique designs and high quality of the 100% pure beeswax candles quickly turned Beeskep II into a thriving candle making enterprise. Beeskep II now offers many different styles to customers worldwide.

To meet their growing demand, Beeskep II started making their own candle molds with Smooth-On mold rubbers.

"My own molds are lasting much longer which cuts down on my labor & material costs. I literally get thousands of castings from a single Smooth-On mold."  - Bob Maring, Beeskep II

Materials Used in this Tutorial

  • Ease Release
  • Plastic Tubing
  • PMC-744
  • Mixing Containers
  • Mixing Sticks
  • Beeswax

Step 1: Preparing Materials

First, mount the original wood model onto a base. Cut PVC tubing in half, which will be used to contain the liquid rubber. Apply Ease Release® release agent to the model as well as the plastic tubing. Clamp the tubing halves together around the model.

Step 2: Dispensing, Mixing, Pouring and Demolding of PMC-744

Dispense Parts A and B of PMC®-744 urethane rubber into a clean mixing container and mix thoroughly. Pour the urethane rubber into the tube around the model and allow it to cure overnight. The next day, remove the PVC halves and then remove the model.

Step 3: Finishing

Then, pour hot liquid beeswax into the mold cavity and allow it to cool. The finished wax casting can now be removed from the mold. With this single rubber mold, Beeskep II will allow you to make thousands of candles.
