It Doesn’t Get Any Easier—Your Step-By-Step Beginner’s Guide to Making Simple Candle Molds.

1 - Items included in the Smooth-On candle kit: 3'' x 4'' acrylic model container, Smooth-On measuring cup, Sonite™ Wax, 2'' x 3.5'' wooden dowel, OOMOO™ 30 Silicone Rubber, Smooth-On Golden Paraffin Blend, wicks.

2 - Items not included in the kit, but needed: brush, water, safety goggles, thermometer, utility knife, double boiler, mixing sticks, oven mitt, nail, foil, mixing cups and hot glue gun.
 Gallery Image

3 - The aluminum foil is measured out to a sheet of 16 x 12 inches (40 x 30 cm) and folded into quarters to hold the model during the mold making process.
 Gallery Image

4 - Recommended: Wear protective gloves and glasses.
 Gallery Image

5 - Use the glue gun to put some glue on the bottom of the dowel.
 Gallery Image

6 - Firmly press the dowel onto the center of the foil base for one minute.
 Gallery Image

7 - Once glued down, seal the top and sides of the dowel with Sonite™ Wax.
 Gallery Image

8 - Use the hot glue gun to seal at the juncture where the tube and foil meet. This will prevent the liquid rubber from escaping.
 Gallery Image

9 - Pour 5.5 oz \ 162 ml. Part A into the measuring cup.
 Gallery Image

10 - Pour 5.5 oz. / 162 ml. Part B into the measuring cup.
 Gallery Image

11 - Equal amounts of Part A and Part B equal 11 oz.
 Gallery Image

12 - Mix thoroughly; scrape the sides and bottom of the container many times until color of rubber is uniform.
 Gallery Image

13 - Double mix and pour. Pour the OOMOO® into a second container and mix some more.
 Gallery Image

14 - Pour the rubber at the lowest point in the acrylic tube and let the rubber flow around the model.
 Gallery Image

15 - Let rubber flow up and over the top of the model by 1/2'' (1 cm).
 Gallery Image

16 - Wait at least six hours for the OOMOO® 30 rubber to cure.
 Gallery Image

17 - After 6 hours, remove the foil from the model base.
 Gallery Image

18 - Remove Clear Tube - Carefully cut in a straight line down acrylic tube ...don't cut yourself!
 Gallery Image

19 - Slowly peel the plastic away from the rubber mold.
 Gallery Image

20 - Remove the wooden dowel model from the OOMOO® rubber mold.
 Gallery Image

21 - Trim any excess rubber from the rim of the mold.
 Gallery Image

22 - Turn your attention to the double boiler, water and hot plate.
 Gallery Image

23 - Pour 1 inch of water into the bottom of the larger pan.
 Gallery Image

24 - Place the smaller top chamber of the double boiler in place.
 Gallery Image

25 - Pour 1/2 of the bag (about 16 oz. ) of wax beads into the double boiler.
 Gallery Image

26 - Set the double boiler on high.
 Gallery Image

27 - Put the lid on and allow to come to 180°F/82°C.
 Gallery Image

28 - When the wax beads melt and change from opaque to translucent in appearance, insert the wax thermometer to verify the temperature. The ideal pouring temperature of the liquid wax is 180°F / 82°C.
 Gallery Image

29 - The wick is six inches (15.25 cm) long with a metal base. The mold cavity is 3.5 in./8.89 cm. deep.
 Gallery Image

30 - Measuring the wick - center the metal wick base in the bottom of the mold. Wrap excess wick around a nail or similar object (pencil) and eliminate residual. Rest nail over mold opening making sure that the wick is centered.
 Gallery Image

31 - Securing the wick base to the bottom of the mold: Immerse the metal base base in the hot wax. This will secure it to mold bottom and hold it in place while wax is poured.
 Gallery Image

32 - Secure metal base in bottom of mold. Rest nail over mold opening, making sure it is centered.
 Gallery Image

33 - The mold is ready for the wax pour. Pour the wax carefully to avoid disturbing the nail or spilling wax.
 Gallery Image

34 - Let the wax cool for two hours. As the wax cools it will shrink and form a depression around the wick. Cut with scissors leaving 1/2'' (1 cm) of wick over the top of the mold.
 Gallery Image

35 - Bring the wax back up to melting / pouring temperature and fill the depression (top off the mold). Let the wax cool for two hours.
 Gallery Image

36 - The finished candle is removed from the mold.
 Gallery Image

37 - The candle is now ready to be enjoyed. Your OOMOO™ 30 mold can be used to cast hundreds of candles.
 Gallery Image

38 - You can use OOMOO™ 30 mold rubber to make a mold of almost any original. Candle styles are endless.
