Major Renovation Puts the 'Grand' Back in Grand Central Terminal
Grand Central Station (or simply "Grand Central") is a terminal station located at 42nd Street and Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. It is the largest train station in the world by number of platforms located on two floors.
MJM Studios of NY enlisted Smooth-On mold rubbers like Brush-On®40 and the concrete polymer additive duoMatrix®- C for this 200 million dollar enormous-scale restoration project. Smooth-On's Brush-On®40 mold rubber was selected because of the excellent ability to capture fine detail. The restoration also included the addition of a second staircase, restaurants on the balconies, and a main concourse lined by shops.
Grand Central Terminal, built in 1913, shines like new after the multi-million dollar restoration.
Smooth-On's Brush-OnŽ 40 mold rubber was used exclusively because of the ability to pick-up perfect detail.
Finished molds are used to cast plaster to create replacement ornamental ceiling sections.
