The City Root Artist Keiko Miyamore used about 14,000 lbs. (6,350 kgs.) of Crystal Clear® to encapsulate a large tree root. The tree root was originally spotted at the site of the now demolished Cambridge Plaza housing projects in Philadelphia, PA. Entangled in the complex root system were many pieces of brick, glass, and metal. In the root one can see the life of a tree in the city and the life of the city in a tree. This sculpture is designed as a giant ice cube sitting serenely within an undulating landscape. The Crystal Clear® magnifies the existance of the root, its life and energy, and turns it into timeless symbol of the human-nature relationship.

The heavy root system is carefully lowered into the mold box via forklift.
The mold is made of thick gauged plywood. Inside, mold walls are
laminated with a layer of VytaFlex® 40 urethane rubber.
Top view - Crystal Clear® 221 is mixed, vacuumed and dispensed via meter mix machine into mold caviity, encapsulating the root.
A technician wearing a Niosh approved mask and proper gloves, mans the pumping station.
The material is allowed to fully cure.
