Captain America Tribute Helmet Made from Smooth-Cast® 45D

When Jonathan Hunt was searching out materials to create 'Captain America' style helmets for his clients, he was looking for very particular properties. The material had to be fast setting, somewhat flexible, pigmentable and also paintable.

After searching and testing multiple materials, Jon found the answer in Smooth-Cast® 45 D. Jon created a mold using Dragon Skin® 20 platinum cured silicone and was able to cast 45D quickly and easily into the finished mold.

The result: happy clients and a perfect material choice for this fantastic application.

The original clay sculpted helmet, coated with clear acrylic spray as a sealant.	A ''matrix'' or ''cavity pour'' mold is created by building up clay over the sculpture, then creating a support shell.	The rubber mold is made using Dragon Skin 20 platinum cure silicone.
The cast helmets are easily demolded from the silicone mold. Note the Plasti-Paste support shell to the right in the image.	Most any color can be achieved using SO-Strong urethane color tints.	The cast Smooth-Cast 45D helmet reflects perfect detail.
This red model can be used for other super-hero cosutuming as well.	Pearlescent Cast Magic powders give these models a fantastic sheen.	A test fit of the helmet along with full costume.
