New Polymer-Based Casting System Is Versatile, Easy To Use And Flame Rated by Underwriter’s Labs.

EASTON, PA -  duoMatrix, Inc. introduces Matrix NEO, a new polymer based gypsum casting system that is suitable for many applications including producing architectural and decorative elements, reproducing sculpture and creating a variety of special effects.

Castings made with NEO are far stronger and more weather resistant than conventional gypsum-based products, and Underwriters Laboratories recently certified NEO as UL-94 V-O Flame Resistant.  NEO has no odor and is non-toxic, and is being used in some applications as a safe alternative to fiberglass and resin.

And NEO is economical, costing much less per lb./kg. than urethane or epoxy casting resins.

Matrix NEO comes as two components, a powder and a liquid.  The mix ratio is 2 parts powder to one part liquid by volume (no weighting scale necessary).  After mixing components, NEO can be cast solid, laid up by hand with chopped fiber or sprayed, usually into a rubber mold.

NEO elements laid up by hand with chopped fiber are thin (3/8” – ˝” thickness), very strong and can literally withstand being hit with a hammer by the next day.

Fully cured pieces are easily painted, sanded, drilled or machined.  Different surface finishes such as marble, granite, stone and terra cotta are achieved with color pigments and fillers.  Realistic cold cast metal effects (i.e. bronze, brass or copper finishes) are created by mixing metal powder with NEO components prior to casting into a mold.

NEO is being widely used by movie and theatre set builders in Hollywood, on Broadway and across the country to create flame resistant set elements and props.  Because of its resistance to flame, UV and the elements, NEO has been specified as the material that will be used to create both interior and exterior architectural elements for the restoration of several London subway stations this summer.
