Customer Spotlight: Fernando Alvarenga’s Sculpture “Paint”

Smooth-On is focusing our spotlight upon Senior art student Fernando Alvarenga from the School of Visual Arts. Fernando set out to create a sculpture, to be placed in front of the retailer Dolce & Gabbana in Manhattan, New York City.

“I wanted to recreate paint spiraling down and creating a dress with its splash and freezing at that moment,” Fernando said. It took the artist around 300 pours to create this sculpture. Within those 300 pours, were roughly four-gallon units, not including his trial phase: Fernando noted, “with each pour, I learned how to control the material better.”

Fernando’s artwork entitled “Paint” and can be seen until November 15th, 2017, in front of Dolce & Gabbana on 69th Street and Madison Ave in New York City.

Stay tuned for more from this artist as his projects develop and follow him on Instagram.
