Heart to Heart With Smooth‑On® Silicones

Jesse Rios is a researcher working with the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston. He has been working to develop a translucent diseased heart that will have simulated blood pumped through it to display the irregularities of a diseased heart while it is beating.

He has been moving closer to his goal by using Smooth-On's platinum series silicones to create molds that capture the details of hair-like tissue that make up our vascular system in different parts of the body.

So far he has used animal organs for his models, but hopes to use one of Smooth-On's platinums (probably Sorta Clear) to recreate a human heart as soon as one is available.
