How To Use Encapso® K To Create a Cereal Prop

Overview

An ad agency in charge of creating a print advertisement for a client, was having a problem with cereal and milk deteriorating under the heat of the set lights. Specifically, as the photo shoot progressed, the cereal was absorbing the milk and looking soggy. In addition to this, the hot lights were causing the milk to sour quickly, creating an odor problem in the photo studio. After preparing and discarding over 30 bowls of cereal in over two days, they contacted Smooth-On for a material solution.

Encapso® K to the rescue!

To simulate the milk, Encapso K was color pigmented with Silc-Pig® White silicone pigment and poured over the cereal and a spoon. Encapso K was poured slowly over the cereal with care being taken to try and coat each individual piece of cereal.

Begin by arranging the prop to your satisfication. Then dispense equal part A and B, adding Silc Pig® White to Part B only. Mix part A and B thoroughly and pour over your prop.

Step 2: Finishing Display

The next day, the fully cured Encapso® K rubber will act like an adhesive and bond everything together to the point that the bowl can be turned upside down without losing product.

The prop looks just like cereal in milk and will last for the entire project (and beyond) saving time, labor, tempers, milk and cereal.
