Introducing Habitat™ Flex Epoxy Putty

Habitat Epoxy “mix-and-apply-by-hand” Putties are used by amusement parks, museums, zoos, aquariums, theaters, shopping malls, restaurants and other public space fabricators for a variety of themed environment applications. They are easy-to-use sculpting, stamping and texturing mediums that allow the end user tremendous creative latitude to make on site trees, rock walls, coral, sculpted elements and more. They are incredibly strong, rigid and rock hard.

New Free Form Habitat™ Flex is a semi-rigid epoxy putty that is also mixed and applied by hand and has some flexibility when cured depending on thickness and configuration. One significant feature of this product is that it is certified flame resistant to the highest testing standard (E84, Class A) and is the only semi-rigid epoxy of its kind to have this rating.

You use Flex in the same way as the other Habitat™ products, mixing Parts A & B with Folding Powder to thicken the mixture, reduce sag and make the epoxy more workable. You can then stamp, texture or sculpt the putty to create any shape or effect.

Although this material is impact and abrasion resistant, it is semi-rigid and not flexible. There are limits to how far you can bend this material depending on configuration. For example, if you make a tree branch and bend it more than 45°, the part may crack or fissure. If you need to make a branch or vine that you need to bend to 90° or more, you can use Smooth-On’s UreCoat™.

Applications – Habitat Flex was recently used at a recent world famous amusement park / resort used to make over 3 miles of imitation vines to guide park visitors over uneven terrain. The imitation vines had to 1) look and feel like real vines (soft and easy on human skin), 2) be certified flame resistant and 3) be strong and long lasting.

Zoos prefer Habitat Flex for creating trees, vines and other elements for birds, lizards and other animals that rely on their claws to navigate, grab and hang onto in their environments. Habitat is also very tough and difficult for animals to pick apart or destroy.

Habitat™ Flex is available in trial units (with folding powder), gallon units and 5 gallon units.
